Happy Near Year! Chúc mừng năm mới! We wish everyone a safe and happy celebration of the lunar New Year and a happy Valentine’s Day.
- We are so excited to celebrate and showcase our kids for Tết – Lunar New Year – Year of The Water Buffalo! Video to be shown on February 11th at 6 pm at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wrzFc5pxdl0 or https://www.hphpdx.org. All classes will perform, including our 6th grade Roseway Heights class, to celebrate this important holiday! Please pass on the link to family, friends, and the broader community. A heartfelt thank you to the teachers who have worked so hard with the students, the families, the administrators, and the HPH Tết committee! Together, you have all made this possible! Chúc mừng năm mới!
- Read for the Roses. There were unfortunately some problems with accessing the link to the Bao Phi reading from student Chromebooks. If you missed it live, you can visit https://sites.google.com/view/rcp-library/read-for-the-roses to see the recording of his reading of his book “A Different Pond” and responding to student questions. It was a fantastic event, so please check it out! Special thanks to the HPH and PTO Read for the Roses committee, RCP administrators, and our RCP librarian Ms. Ivester for the funding and dedication to make this event happen.
- At library pick up time from 3-5 on Mondays and Wednesdays you can pick up a Read for the Roses game board, where your student can record time reading at home. Fill out the game board for special prizes!
- Order a signed copy of one (or multiple!) of Bao Phi’s books. You can purchase online from his neighborhood bookshop, linked also at the library’s Read for the Roses website. The bookstore will donate 20% of the proceeds to enable us to purchase more Vietnamese language books for our school.
- Update on In-Person Learning: Summary of PPS communication from January 26:
- Limited in person instruction at Rose City Park may start at the beginning March (and for Roseway Heights may start by February 22), with instruction of up to 2 hours a week for students who are most struggling with distance learning. Staffing is on a voluntary basis, and it is not yet known how many VDLI students may be included in this opportunity.
- Hybrid learning at all elementary and middle schools may be possible this spring. Hybrid learning is when students alternate during the week between in-person and distance learning. Families will also be able to choose to continue with distance learning full-time and not have students attend school in-person at all this school year. More information to come from the district soon, including a request for your preference regarding whether you want hybrid learning or wish to continue with distance learning only.
- PPS is planning for expanded summer school programming options to build back instructional time for our students.
- Let’s all do our part and keep wearing those masks and social distancing so our COVID case numbers go down and our kids can go back to school!
